In celebration of World Food Day on Friday 16 October, Food Durham, the County Durham Food Partnership, is challenging families across the county to take on the VegPower Veg Chomp-ionship using the new Eat Them to Defeat Them Activity Book. The Activity Book is jam-packed full of puzzles, games and cool cooking activities which will encourage children to have fun with veg and to eat more of them too.

VegPower, in partnership with a range of supermarkets and other food businesses has been running the award-winning Eat Them To Defeat Them campaign in schools across the UK over the past couple of years. The TV campaign reached over 46 million people and the schools’ programme reached 425,00 primary school age kids, including most of the kids in County Durham, with 76% of them saying it made veg more fun.  (2020 Eat Them to Defeat Them Report)

Eating more veg is now more important than ever and it doesn’t have to be difficult. If nothing else, the VegPower campaign has proved that having fun with veg is a great start to get children and families to eat more veg. Most of us don’t eat anywhere near enough vegetables for a healthy diet. The Veg Chomp-ionship is a great way to encourage children to eat more veg.

The activities are part of the VegPower Activity Pack which is available free of charge from a couple of supermarkets and other outlets.  Food Durham has distributed some of them too through community food projects in the county. The activities for the Veg Chomp-ionship are available to download from the VegPower website and provides a couple of hours of fun.
