Carved your pumpkins for Halloween?  Make sure you don’t waste the cut out bits and even the pumpkin seeds: they are all good food! If you’re really savvy you could pick up some really cheap ones after the event and make the most of cheap food.

As part of the VegCities Campaign Food Durham, The County Durham Food Partnership has gathered a whole range of interesting pumpkin recipes and has teamed up with organisations doing Halloween events to spread the message about food waste and what we can do about it.

A staggering 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins end up in landfill in the UK every year and every pumpkin eaten is a step towards tackling the 7.1 million tonnes of food and drink that is thrown away from UK homes every year.

This year Food Durham and environmental charity HUBBUB are launching County Durham’s biggest #PumpkinRescue. There are multiple Halloween events across the county and Food Durham has teamed up with lots of them to make it much easier not to let your pumpkins go to waste. You can find the events that are taking part on our events pages and there is an amazing array of recipes for you to look at on the resources page on this website.
